Q: Why should you bring your child to a Bumps N’ Bruises Pediatric Urgent care as opposed to another local urgent care? Is there even a difference?

A: Yes, there is a difference. Most generic urgent care physicians are not children's medical centers. They may have had a few months of pediatric training, but did not spend a minimum of three years learning only about infants, children and adolescents as our board certified pediatricians have done in their residency programs.

Q: What exactly is your Curbside Nanny service? How does that help me?

A: When parents bring their sick child to Bumps N' Bruises, we understand that many times your healthy children need to come with you as well. It can be a stressful time when you have your hands full! Our curbside nanny relieves your anxiety by helping take care of your other children. We help get everyone in and out of the car, help with your sick child while you are checking in, and play and keep your healthy children preoccupied in our waiting room. We are here for you every step of the way during your visit.

Q: Do I really only need to wait 5 minutes before my child is seen? It sounds too good to be true!

A: Yes, it really is that quick! We have all been in that situation where waiting to see a primary care doctor can take hours and you child is getting worse by the minute. This is our promise to you: Within five minutes of check-in and returning your insurance card back to you, we will immediately start a medical evaluation on your child. We want to assess and treat our patients as quickly as possible so they can be back on their feet and feeling well again.

Q: Is there a difference to bringing your child to Bumps N’ Bruises Pediatric Urgent Care as opposed to the emergency room?

A: Yes, there is a difference. First and foremost, if your child is truly experiencing an emergency, you should dial 911 or head directly to the nearest emergency room. Emergency rooms are designed and operate best for one thing and one thing only: emergencies. That being said, children are often injured or ill and do need to be seen by a doctor, but it is not a true life or death emergency; in such situations, a pediatric urgent care, like Bumps N’ Bruises is often the better choice. In addition to much cheaper insurance co-pays (the average emergency room co-pay is usually hundreds of dollars), Bumps n’ Bruises is designed to treat non-life threatening injuries and illnesses. What does this mean for you the parent? Simple, often we can have your child seen much quicker than they would in an emergency room and we can do so while still costing you less out of pocket than an emergency room visit would cost.

Q: What are "well child" visits and does Bumps N' Bruises do these?

A: Well child visits are when patients go to see their pediatrician for routine developmental assessments and vaccines. Bumps N' Bruises does not provide these traditional, routine well care visits. We do conduct sports physicals for school and other sports participation release. But what we specialize in is treating those sudden unexpected illnesses or injuries that come up after your pediatrician's office is already booked or closed for the day. We can give IV fluids for dehydration, treat strep throat or ear infections, colds and allergies, give breathing treatments, place stitches for cuts or splints for broke bones. The only immunizations we administer are Tetanus for injuries that require it or Flu vaccines during the flu season.

Q: How does going to Bumps N’ Bruises Pediatric Urgent Care affect my child’s care with his or her pediatrician?

A: We work not in competition with your child’s pediatrician, but in conjunction with him or her. We are an after hours pediatrics center, when your child’s pediatrician’s schedule is often already full for the day or once they have closed their office. Our staff will electronically send the medical records from your child’s visit to his or her pediatrician within hours of them being seen at Bumps N’ Bruises. What this means for you is that your child’s pediatrician will have your child’s records showing exactly what was done and/or what medication was prescribed on their desk the very next morning when you are calling to schedule a follow up appointment.
